Behind the scenes - The Summer Window Display

We received such wonderful feedback on the Christmas window, when Boxing Day came the challenge was on. We needed to create something completely different for our customers to enjoy.

Taking inspiration from the famous Slim Aarons photograph ‘Desert House Party’, we had in store, our summer garden party window was born!

The Southern Highlands of NSW has been in major bushfire stress over summer. Some of us lost homes and many of us have been evacuated several times.  Clear summer days have been replaced with thick smoky air. All in all, it has not been the relaxing carefree summer we were all looking forward to.

We were keen to inject some colour, fun and escapism into our main street.

Our window started the same way our interior styling projects do - with a mood board.

Step one was a trip to Bunnings to grab the artificial grass. Due to the drought no one’s lawns looks like this right now but it made a great cheery foundation for our design.

Next we gathered up the key pieces.

The statement rattan ‘egg chair’ in natural finish set the relaxing vibe. Adding to the vintage feel was our ceramic Emerald Green Stool. Providing that citrus pop of colour was the orange juju hat. Bringing the glamour was our latest bar trolley in champagne gold.

We then moved on to adding the accessories including cushions, the silver palm plant and our faux plants and planters. We styled the bar cart with our ever popular pink and gold stemware, cocktail shaker and bar accessories. Injecting the ‘fun’ was easy with a selection of Sunny Life pieces including neon lights and beach accessories.

Last but not least our Slim Aarons art work taking pride in the centre and our window was complete.

Much to our delight within 15 min of the Slim Aarons artwork going on display it was sold to our lovely customer and Slim Aaron's collector.

We get so much joy and satisfaction seeing customers and passers-by stop for a moment to take in our window, often leading them to come inside and discover our store.

We are already dreaming up our next window for autumn so keep an eye out.

Karen and Nancy xoxo
